Your Dream Is Holding You Back

Why Elon Musk Wins (And Most People Don't)

I came across something that stuck with me:

When asked what they’d do differently, many ultra-successful people don’t say, “I wish I worked harder.”

They say, “I wish I had dreamed bigger.”

That hit me. Because if I’m being honest, my dreams haven’t always been big enough.

It’s easy to dream about things like visiting a new country, buying a nice car, or hitting a career milestone. But what if your dream was something massive—something world-changing?

That’s where Elon Musk comes in.

Love him or hate him, you can’t ignore the fact that he thinks on a level most people don’t. Musk doesn’t just want to build rockets. His goal?

Make humanity a multi-planetary species.

That’s a different level of thinking. And while most of us aren’t trying to colonize Mars, we can learn a few key lessons from how he approaches success.

3 Mindset Shifts That Separate the Ultra-Successful from Everyone Else

If you want to achieve anything meaningful, you need to break free from the standard way of thinking. Here are three critical mindset shifts:

(Video above if you want to watch instead of read)

1. Think in Two-Way Doors

Most people hesitate to make big moves because they overestimate the risk. They treat every decision as if it’s permanent.

But Jeff Bezos has a concept called one-way vs. two-way doors:

  • One-way doors = Once you walk through, there’s no turning back (big, irreversible decisions).

  • Two-way doors = If it doesn’t work out, you can turn around and try something else.

Most decisions in life? They’re two-way doors.

You can test, adjust, and pivot without major consequences. The key is to move fast when you don’t have to risk it all.

👉 Ask yourself: What’s one thing you’ve been overthinking that you could just try and adjust later?

2. Have Unshakable Belief in Your Mission

If you have big dreams, expect people to doubt you. The world doesn’t reward people who step outside the norm—at least not right away.

Musk gets mocked constantly. But his success comes from one thing: Relentless belief in his mission.

Most people abandon their dreams before they even give them a real shot.
The successful ones? They push forward even when no one believes in them.

👉 Ask yourself: Do you believe in your dream enough to keep going even when no one else does?

Side Quest: The people who are closest to you will also give you some of the worst advice. Not because they want you to fail, but because they don’t want to see you succeed. Check out more on that topic here.

3. Reinvest in Yourself Relentlessly

Musk has a track record of taking everything he earns and reinvesting it into his next project. He’s bet on himself over and over.

If you want to grow, you have to pour resources into yourself—your skills, your network, and your ability to execute at a high level.

This doesn’t mean reckless spending. It means:
✔ Investing in learning (books, courses, mentorship)
✔ Taking care of your energy (health, sleep, exercise)
✔ Surrounding yourself with people who challenge you to level up

👉 Ask yourself: Are you investing in yourself, or just hoping for success without growth?

Final Thought: Dream Bigger, Execute Harder

If you dream bigger than you ever thought possible and execute on it every day, you’ll be surprised how far you go.

Will you hit every goal? Probably not. But even if you fall short, you’ll still end up far ahead of where most people stop.

🚀 So here’s your challenge this week:

  1. Write down your biggest goal.

  2. 10x it. (Make it way bigger than you thought possible.)

  3. Identify one action you can take today to get closer.

Until next time,
